2021 Xiangqi Tournaments Step into the captivating world of Xiangqi through our comprehensive collection of tournament games from 2021 - a year that showcased the remarkable resilience and passion of the Chinese chess community despite global challenges. This digital archive brings together over 5,000 game records from 39 major tournaments across China and beyond, offering enthusiasts and students of the game an invaluable resource for study, analysis, and appreciation of high-level play. The year 2021 proved to be a fascinating chapter in Xiangqi history, demonstrating how the ancient game of Chinese chess adapted to modern circumstances while maintaining its deep cultural roots. In the 2021 tournament, 85 Chinese Xiangqi Grandmasters and Masters participated in the event. Among these participants were past 18 Chinese National Champions. This collection captures not only the tactical brilliance of contemporary masters but also the evolving landscape of professional Xiangqi competition. The Crown Jewel Events Among the tournament highlights, the Tencent Chess Tiantian Xiangqi National Men's Class A League (腾讯棋牌天天象棋全国象棋甲级联赛) stands as the pinnacle of team competition, featuring 980 meticulously documented games. This prestigious league represents the highest level of professional Xiangqi in China, where provincial teams battle for supremacy in what could be considered the "Premier League" of Chinese chess. The preliminary rounds alone contributed 166 additional games, showcasing the depth of talent vying for positions in this elite competition. Equally impressive was the 14th National Games of the People's Republic of China (第十四届全运会群众比赛象棋), which provided 1,250 games across its preliminary and final stages. 2021 also saw the first-ever participation by a team representing Tibet. This milestone event demonstrated Xiangqi's growing reach across all regions of China, bringing together amateur and professional players in celebration of the game's unifying power. The Jimo Cup National Team Championship (即墨杯全国象棋团体赛) delivered another treasure trove with 652 games, while the Bozhou Cup National Fast Chess Championship (亳州杯全国象棋快棋锦标赛) contributed 736 rapid-fire encounters that highlight the game's exciting fast-paced variant. Legendary Performances and Rising Stars This collection captures some truly memorable moments, including multiple exhibition matches featuring the legendary Wang Tianyi (王天一), widely regarded as one of the strongest players of his generation. The archive includes his spectacular 1-vs-15 wheel battle in Chongqing (重庆王天一1VS15车轮战表演赛), his 1-vs-30 challenge in Xinzhou (忻州"古城象棋杯"擂台赛王天一一对30车轮战), and his 1-vs-20 exhibition at the Qianling Cup (首届乾陵杯象棋公开赛王天一1VS20车轮战). These simultaneous exhibitions showcase not only individual brilliance but also the entertainment value that draws millions of spectators to Xiangqi events. The women's competition was equally thrilling, with the Lechang Peach Blossom Cup Women's Class A League (乐昌桃花杯全国象棋女子甲级联赛) providing 352 games that demonstrate the growing strength and tactical sophistication of women's professional Xiangqi. These games reflect years of development in women's competitive play and serve as inspiration for the next generation of female players. Regional Celebrations and Cultural Heritage Beyond the national championships, this collection beautifully captures the grassroots passion for Xiangqi through regional tournaments like the Shenzhen New Year Cup Master Invitational (首届深圳迎春杯象棋大师邀请赛), the Kunming Xishan District Spring Cup (昆明市西山区第六届"迎春杯"象棋公开赛), and the Shanxi Provincial Team Championship (山西省象棋团体赛暨第九届宝宝杯象棋邀请赛) with its impressive 98 games. These regional events illustrate how Xiangqi serves as more than just a competitive pursuit - it's a living cultural tradition that brings communities together. From the bustling metropolis of Shenzhen to the historic landscapes of Shanxi Province, each tournament reflects local character while contributing to the greater tapestry of Chinese chess culture. Tournament Innovation and Unique Formats The 2021 season showcased remarkable creativity in tournament formats. The North-South Challenge series (第五届"吉视传媒杯"象棋全国冠军南北对抗赛) continued the tradition of regional rivalry that originated in the 1931 event mentioned above. Grandmasters are divided into two groups, one representing North China and one representing South China. These events maintain the historic spirit of regional competition while providing fans with compelling narratives. Equally fascinating were the specialized competitions like the Chess and Tea Culture Cup (棋茶文化杯), which featured a unique blind chess exhibition where six amateur masters challenged the legendary Liu Dahua in simultaneous play without sight of the board. Such events highlight Xiangqi's artistic dimensions beyond pure competition. Enhanced Analysis with Modern AI Technology This game collection is significantly enhanced by modern AI analysis using NNUE (Efficiently Updatable Neural Networks) technology. Unlike traditional handcrafted evaluation methods that relied on human-programmed rules, NNUE enhances the evaluation function of a traditional engine by replacing the hand-crafted rules with a lightweight neural network trained to evaluate chess positions and is trained on millions of positions labeled by Stockfish's own evaluations (self-supervised learning). This breakthrough in computer chess analysis provides deeper, more accurate position assessments that mirror human intuition while uncovering tactical nuances that might escape even experienced players. The implementation of NNUE technology in Xiangqi analysis represents a quantum leap forward in understanding. NNUE is incredibly effective in Xiangqi because of the game's unique characteristics where being several pawns down is not such a problem as long as you have a strong attack. This technology allows for more sophisticated analysis of the complex positional factors that make Xiangqi such a rich and rewarding game to study. A Complete Tournament Catalog The comprehensive nature of this collection becomes clear when examining the full tournament roster. Major events include the 10th Country Garden Cup National Champion Invitational (第10届碧桂园杯全国象棋冠军邀请赛), the China Bank - Angel Guide Cup National Master Invitational (中国银行·仙人指路杯全国象棋大师邀请赛), and the prestigious Flower Wood Cup 6th National Grand Chess Saint Tournament (花木杯第六届全国象棋大棋圣战). Specialized competitions like the Ganggang Cup 7th National Youth Master Championship (高港杯第七届全国象棋青年大师赛) with 99 games showcased emerging talent, while the Caicai Cup 9th Challenge Tournament (第九届"财神杯"象棋擂台赛) continued the exciting tradition of elimination-style competition. The Guizhou Tequ
Guangqi Cup 9th Video Fast Chess Tournament (贵州特曲·广奇杯第九届视频象棋快棋赛) demonstrated how technology enabled continued competition during challenging times. Even international representation appears in this collection, with games from the Vietnam National Individual Championship (越南全国象棋个人锦标赛) and the Bay Area (Shenzhen) Invitation Tournament (粤港澳大湾区(深圳)象棋邀请赛), showcasing Xiangqi's growing international footprint and the game's role in fostering cultural exchange. Legacy and Learning This 2021 tournament collection serves multiple purposes: it preserves crucial games for historical study, provides educational material for players seeking to improve their understanding, and offers entertainment for those who simply love watching masterful play unfold. Each game represents hours of preparation, years of study, and moments of brilliant inspiration captured for posterity. Whether you're a beginner seeking to understand opening principles through the Yike Qiyuan Cup Guangdong Top Ten (弈客棋缘杯第二届广东省象棋十强赛), an intermediate player studying endgame technique in the First National Champion Veterans Tournament (首届全国象棋冠军元老赛), or an advanced student analyzing tactical combinations from the Wuxi Rongguang Cup Veteran Masters series (无锡市"荣光杯"第九届象棋元老大师), this comprehensive database offers invaluable insights into every aspect of competitive Xiangqi.
