1998 9th Yinli Cup Xiangqi Championship Tournament Background The Yinli Cup (银荔杯象棋争霸赛 / 銀荔杯象棋爭霸賽) stands as one of the most prestigious tournaments in professional Xiangqi history. Established in 1990, this annual championship ran until 2005, paralleling the renowned Five Rams Cup in prestige and competitive intensity. What distinguished the Yinli Cup was its unique selection criteria - while the Five Rams Cup primarily focused on past National Champions, the Yinli Cup invited players based on their current year's performance. The tournament featured both Division A masters and elite players from the women's division, with the top nine women's Xiangqi masters eligible to participate. Winners were awarded a substantial prize of 150,000 RMB, reflecting the tournament's prestigious status in professional Xiangqi.
